4th & 5th Grade Full Day Program

Full Day Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW & EXPERIENCE GOAL

Students are told at the beginning of the trip that developers are planning to build a highway through the Sonoran Desert, and more specifically, through Camp Cooper. They are then tasked with gathering data on the plants, birds, bugs, and animals they encounter during their hike at camp. Each group is given a booklet and tools to help them identify what they are seeing, properly gather their insights and thoughts, and to help them realize they have a voice when it comes to what happens to their natural environments.

Program Highlights

SONORAN SYNERGY

Classes will be split into four groups. Each group will have a different focus, whether it be bugs, birds, animals or plants. Depending on the group, students will be given various tools such as magnifying glasses, binoculars, specimen identification books, etc., that will help them during their hike. The main goal will be to gather data to present to developers on why it is important to not build a highway through the desert. This portion of the trip will be done by students drawing and writing their findings and then presenting, for the banner or voices.
