Cooper Recognizes Outstanding Tucson Teachers at Best Attended Event in Cooper History

On November 20th, Camp Cooper opened its gates for the first public event in over 18 months. 

The occasion was to celebrate outstanding Tucson teachers - teachers who had made a difference in the lives of students and teachers who employ hands-on learning in the classroom.  The evening was full of great food prepared by San Xavier Co-op Farm, entertainment from Desert Music Project, storytelling by Ron Lancaster, and a brief ceremony where Cooper Center staff, Advisory Board members, and a representative from the Educational Enrichment Foundation recognized teachers and awarded them with gifts from community partners and businesses including:

  • Green Valley Pecan Company

  • Trader Joe’s on Speedway & Tanque Verde

  • Cutting Edge Salon

  • Sydney’s Sweet Shoppe

  • Earl Mendenhall III, Longview Insurance & Investments

  • Patty and Bob Boggs

  • Pam Francis

  • Alexianne Ramirez

  • The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning

 

Attendance at the event was more than 250 people, and is likely the best attended event ever held at The Cooper Center's Tucson mountain facility.

Of the 100 teachers nominated to receive awards, more than 65 were in attendance to share the evening, both familiar faces from Camp Cooper field trips, as well as teachers from around Tucson who had not yet spent time at Camp Cooper.
