UArizona Helps Develop National Sustainability Standards for Higher Ed

The University of Arizona is collaborating with the Carnegie Foundation to develop national standards for sustainability in higher education. This initiative aims to create a new classification recognizing U.S. institutions' sustainability efforts. The University of Arizona is among 21 institutions participating in this pilot program.

Renowned local artist Joe Pagac is painting a vibrant mural at Camp Cooper on Tucson's westside. The artwork features desert animals as campers, blending art with the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Camp Cooper, operated by the University of Arizona, serves as an environmental education hub for students to learn about the desert ecosystem. The mural aims to enhance visitors' experience and highlight the center's mission.

Tucson company collaborates with U of A to bring sustainable hemp construction to the university

Feb. 12, 2025

Old Pueblo Hemp Company is partnering with the University of Arizona and Tucson Unified School District to enhance the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning's cabins using hemp-lime, a sustainable and energy-efficient building material. This initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and promote eco-friendly construction practices. The company also plans to offer community workshops on hemp-based building materials starting in March.
