Cooper Team visits Tucson Botanical Gardens

Aug. 20, 2022

Connecting with nature is not just something we preach at the Cooper Center, we also practice it. Our team was recently invited to visit the Tucson Botanical Gardens to tour the grounds with Director of Horticulture, Adam Farrell-Wortman. It was amazing to see the work that Adam has put into every corner of the gardens. As we toured through the various sections highlighting different ecosystems and biodiversity, each member of our team jumped at the chance to experience the diverse range of botanical scents, colors, and textures on display. An interesting feature of Tucson Botanical Gardens is that it not only showcases the incredible native plant life of the Sonoran Desert but also species from around the world. Some of these plants can be very difficult to grow in Tucson's climate! It was fascinating to hear the measures and techniques employed to make some of these non-native plants flourish in the desert heat. We also were able to learn about their fascinating butterfly house and the incredible processes involved with keeping butterflies.

We also had the opportunity to discuss Tucson Botanical Gardens' education programs and explore ways we can collaborate further to bring together more people, both children and adults, with the natural world. This type of outreach with our community partners is an important part of what we do at Camp Cooper. We genuinely appreciate the hospitality of everyone at Tucson Botanical Gardens. Look forward to future collaborations!
