Crowdfunding Week 1 Update

Sept. 7, 2020

Thanks to the support of our community, we have been able to continue our important work during these challenging times. This summer, for the first time ever, we offered a virtual summer camp, connecting children with the wonders of our Sonoran Desert. This program was enthusiastically received by more than 400 families, and it would not have been possible without the investment of people in our community like you.

As closures related to the pandemic continue, our team has quickly adapted to provide engaging and interactive online experiences for students from across Southern Arizona. With your help, when the virus subsides, Cooper will be ready to return to the in-person experiences that have inspired generations of Tucsonans since 1964.

Our goal is to raise $30,000 during the month of September to ensure that we can continue our educational programs during the pandemic and to return to in-person experiences in the future. We are 12% of the way to our goal after the first week.

Finally, I want to personally invite you to our free virtual Camp Cooper Happy Hour event, Friday, Sept. 18th at 5:30pm. You can register for this event at campcooper.eventbrite.com.

Our special guests include

  • A performance by platinum-album jazz songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway, named Performer of the Year and Best Jazz Vocalist by Broadwayworld, writer on seven Barbra Streisand albums, Tony Award nominee for her performance in the Broadway musical Swing! and writer and performer of the theme song to the TV series The Nanny;

  • PD Ronstadt, son of the late Michael J. Ronstadt and nephew of the legendary Linda Ronstadt — a fifth generation Ronstadt exploring the musical heritage of his family while also presenting new and original material, drawing inspiration from all the elements of his upbringing;

  • Globally syndicated Pulitzer Prize finalist David Fitzsimmons, editorial cartoonist for Arizona Daily Star;

  • Gabriel Trujillo, superintendent of Tucson Unified School District, in conversation with Bruce Johnson, dean of the College of Education at the University of Arizona.

Again, you may sign up for the free online Happy Hour event here, and as a special thank you, Crooked Tooth Brewery has agreed to offer event registrants half-off beer to enjoy before, after or at the event!  Sign up for the event and get your half off coupon.

Thank you again for your generous help this week, and please contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Colin "Jackrabbit" Waite
