The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning

Tucson Teachers Recognized At Largest Public Event Held At Camp Cooper
On November 20th, Camp Cooper opened its gates for the first public event in over 18 months. The occasion was to celebrate outstanding Tucson teachers - teachers who had made a difference in the lives of students and teachers who employ hands-on learning in the classroom. The evening was full of great food prepared by San Xavier Co-op Farm, entertainment from Desert Music Project, storytelling by Ron Lancaster and stargazing with the Tucson Amateur Astronomers.
A campfire ceremony featured Cooper Center staff, Advisory Board members, and former director of the Educational Enrichment Foundation who recognized teachers and awarded them with gifts from community partners and businesses.

Former Cooper Center Intern Awarded Teacher Of The Year
Congrats to Maddie Schepper, University of Arizona College of Education alum and former Cooper Center intern. Maddie teaches at Borton Magnet School and is being recognized as an ASTA Science Teacher of The Year.  Maddie is also a recipient of The Cooper Center's 100 Outstanding Tucson Teachers Award. We are proud to see the principles that guide our work at Camp Cooper are reflected in Maddie's in-class education practice.
We Are Hiring a Marketing Specialist
This month we are saying goodbye to Nate Byerley, our part-time marketing coordinator for over 2 years. Nate's work has been instrumental in Cooper Center's growth during his time with our team. He has strengthened our communications with all our constituencies, including teachers and administrators, donors, parents and alumni of our programs, and our local community. His efforts have provided a strong foundation that will help us to come out of the pandemic stronger than ever. We wish him luck as he moves to Campus Web Services here at the University of Arizona.

We are proud that for the first time in our history, we are recruiting for a full-time marketing position. We are looking for candidates with experience in
content creation, brand and messaging, program and event promotion, PR, graphic design, video editing and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Please help us spread the word! Candidates can learn more and apply at: https://arizona.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/4/home/requisition/7895

Direct Your Arizona Taxes To Camp Cooper Kids
Arizona tax credits are a way to allocate your Arizona state tax payments to a cause you support. What could be better than supporting a classroom full of students having a Camp Cooper experience?  Read on, or click here for more information about how your tax credit contributions directly help Tucson students.
The details:
    • You must be an Arizona state tax payer to make a tax credit gift
    • If you owe taxes, your gift is subtracted from what you owe
    • If you’re owed a refund, your gift will be added to your refund
    • If filing as an individual or head of household, you can donate up to $200
    • If filing jointly or as a married couple, you can donate up to $400
    • Donations must be made by April 15, 2022, for the 2021 tax year
    • 100% of your contribution funds transportation and field trip scholarships

It helps teachers and students if you make your gift before December 15th 2021

You can also make a charitable donation directly to Cooper Center in support of facility improvements, staffing and operations, or our endowment fund. While this does not qualify for the Arizona School Tax Credit, we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization through the University of Arizona Foundation. Donations can be made here.
