Land as Pedagogy

On behalf of the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning at the University of Arizona, we would like to invite you to participate in a year-long professional development, Land As Pedagogy, series.
Over the course of the 2022-23 school year and summer, you will engage in workshops and lessons centered on infusing Indigenous knowledge, language, culture, and identity into your classroom lessons and units. There will be time allotted for collaborative development on lessons that braid what has been learned throughout the series into lessons for use in the classroom. This Land as Pedagogy series will conclude with a summer showcase in June 2023. The summer showcase will allow participants to demonstrate their lessons and how they incorporate Indigenous language, identity, and culture.
Series Specifics:
- $600 stipend for participation
- Max. 15 participants
- Both virtual and in-person sessions (in-person sessions will be held at the Cooper Center [http://5403 W Trails End Rd, Tucson, AZ 85745]5403 W Trails End Rd. Tucson, AZ 85745)
- Limited to early childhood and elementary educators
- Deadline to apply: October 7th (Friday)
Fall 2022 Dates:
- October 18th: Virtual (Zoom) Orientation
- November TBD: In-Person Workshop with Sahmie Wytewa
- December 3rd: In-Person Session with Andrea Bennett “Multiliteracy in the classroom”
Dates for spring sessions will be discussed once we have assembled the cohort to ensure that all participants will be able to attend each session.
