The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is an organization that provides adventurous and hands-on learning experiences in the Sonoran Desert. We achieve this through a partnership between the Tucson Unified School District, who owns and maintains the facilities, and the University of Arizona’s College of Education, who facilitates educational programming for learners of all ages.
The Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is a campus that inspires participants to preserve the Sonoran Desert and live more lightly on the earth, offers extended programs in earth education, provides classes and workshops to help prepare teachers, interns, and graduate students in environmental learning, and encourages doctoral students to conduct research on outdoor learning and sustainable practices.
The Mission of the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is to:
- offer programs and workshops to increase understanding of and deepen feelings for the earth and its life
- provide extended educational experiences for students, teachers, and individuals
- inspire individuals to develop ecologically-sound practices in the Sonoran Desert
- promote partnerships between Southern Arizona schools, the University of Arizona, and the local community to help prepare educators to better integrate environmental learning and sustainable practices in the classroom.
